Development of Project Proposal Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Development of Project Proposal - Assignment Example (2011) explains that change control procedures include the steps for what and how modification of official company standards, policies, plans, and procedures, project documents would be approved and validated and made part of final project management plan. Project manager and project team is mainly responsible to identify the change control procedures at all level and their inclusion in the plan. PMBOK (2008) suggests that Integrated Change Control procedure includes the following activities based upon the current status of the project. Changes to project scope always impact the components of the triple constraint i.e., cost, schedule and scope. A scope creep is likely to be associated with increase in cost and time required but may or may not impact the motivation of the project team (PMBOK 2008). In our project, it is essential to have a formal change control procedure in accordance with the steps described below. Initial project duration was calculated to be 61 days with an estimated cost of 5630 â‚ ¬. Please see appendix ‘A’ and ‘B’ for reference. After the approval of change request, change to the project schedule and cost were recalculated as a result of project scope creep. The analysis revealed that now the project duration would be 71 days with an estimated cost of 8235 â‚ ¬. Please see Appendix ‘C’ and ‘D’ for reference. This indicated that project duration increased from 61 days to 71 days but was well within the promised duration of 14 weeks (14X7=98 days). However, as a result of adding a new wing to the building the cost increased from 5630 â‚ ¬ to 8235 â‚ ¬, an increase of 46% in project cost. Contractor, with expertise in construction, will work in conjunction with the client (Smith) to manage the construction of a house building with an additional wing. Greenwich Park Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Greenwich Park - Article Example This has naturally raised a controversy and objections against the events being held in the park are increasing day by day. The LOCOG maintains that the park will be left relatively undamaged and will be restored to its original condition as much as possible, while the public, environmental groups, residents of the village, visitors to the park and even certain sports bodies, raise the objection that irrevocable damage will be done to the part if those events are held there. This paper is a review of the park in its existing glory and the impact that the Olympic events will have on the park. In the process, published literature on the issue will be reviewed and a survey conducted among the students who enjoy facilities of the park. The views of the LOCOG will also be taken into consideration for understanding their standpoint. The final section will b e an opinion regarding the costs, impacts and benefits, if any, that will accrue if the events are held in Greenwich Park. The history of the park, the facilities available, and other relevant information regarding the park will also be reviewed here. History of Greenwich Park: The site on which the park is located has been inhabited right from the Roman periods and some remnants bearing testimony to this have been excavated from this site by archaeologists over a period of time. The land on which the park is situated was inherited by the then Duke of Gloucester, Humphrey in 1427. He enclosed the area with a fence and also built an observatory tower. After his death, his sister-in-law (wife of Henry VI) seized the land for herself. "Greenwich Park was popular with the Tudors. King Henry VII rebuilt the manor house to make the Palace of Placentia - or Greenwich Palace." (Greenwich Park - The Royal Gateway. 2009). Henry the VIII of England introduced deer on to this beautiful hillock overlooking the Thames River in 1515. Quee n Anne had a house built in the park which is now called Queen's House. The iconic landmark of the park, namely the Royal Observatory was built under the orders of Charles II who was an avid lover of astronomy and science. It was built under the aegis of the Royal Society and was named Flamsteed House to honour England's first Royal astronomer. The building stands on the Greenwich or Prime Meridian which technically divides the earth into east and west. The park suffered some damage during the World War II, but was subsequently restored to its original glory. Earth Day Essay Example for Free

Earth Day Essay The subject of Earth Day has been covered intensively by the world press over the past decade. Many an afternoon has been enjoyed by a family, bonding over the discussion of Earth Day. Until recently considered taboo amongst polite society, it is yet to receive proper recognition for laying the foundations of democracy. Often it is seen as both a help and a hinderence to global commercial enterprises, who are yet to grow accustomed to its disombobulating nature. Complex though it is I shall now attempt to provide an exaustive report on Earth Day and its numerous industries. Social Factors There is cultural and institutional interdependence between members of any community. When Thucictholous said people only know one thing [1] he saw clearly into the human heart. Difference among people, race, culture and society is essential on the survival of our world, however Earth Day raises the question why? Recent thought on Earth Day has been a real eye-opener for society from young to old. It grows stonger every day. Economic Factors There has been a great deal of discussion in the world of economics, centred on the value of Earth Day. We shall examine the Fish-Out-Of-Water model. Taking special care to highlight the role of Earth Day within the vast framework which this provides. Oil Prices Earth Day What a splendid graph. Obviously oil prices sings a very different tune. Perhaps to coin a phrase Earth Dayeconomics will be the buzz word of the  century Political Factors No man is an island, but what of politics? Comparing the general view of politics held by the poor of the west with those of the east can be like comparing. Consider this, spoken at the tender age of 14 by jazz singer Bonaventure H. Amster Taking a walk across hot coals will inevitably hurt your feet. [2] This quotation leads me to suspect that he was not unaccustomed to Earth Day. It speaks volumes. History tells us that Earth Day will always be a vote winner, whether we like it, or not. Why did Earth Day cross the road? To get to the other side! Just my little joke, but lets hope that Earth Day doesnt inspire similar hilarity in the next elections. Conclusion To conclude, Earth Day parades along mans streets and man waves back. It fills a hole, invades where necessary and always chips in.

Film Analysis of Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore Essay -- Micha

Film Analysis of Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore 'Bowling for Columbine', directed by Michael Moore, deals with the problems of gun crime in America. The main purpose of this film is to persuade American people to change their ideas about guns and gun laws. Moore constantly refers to other countries such as Canada and their gun policies to back up his arguments for increased gun regulation. He is successfully able to counter argue any reason given by pro gun supporters as to the reason why America has the highest gun related crimes and death, even though other countries have similar attitudes towards violence. The scenes that have been selected focus on different aspects of the film, which present Moore's ability to persuade his audience into his way of viewing gun crime. Michael Moore has used a variety of techniques in the ?A wonderful World? scene to influence the audience into siding with his views and to portray America as a destructive force to other countries. The sequencing of the scene ?A Wonderful World? is very effective. The scene before the clip is very ironic as it shows the Lockheed Martin, which is the largest weapons producer in America. The Lockheed Martin spokesman is standing in front of A missile and is talking about America as a protector of the world. Yet, immediately after this, the man claims that America is not an aggressor, the film is launched into the scenes which entirely contradict his claims. This is a successful use of persuasive technique as the audience will now trust what Moore has to say rather tha... ... either that the NRA and the Klan were parallel groups or that when the Klan was outlawed its members formed the NRA. Both are completely wrong however this is effective as it illustrates that since the KKK was evil, that the NRA is also evil as it is made up of the same members or that both groups have the same belief. Moore is able to use a number of persuasive techniques in the three scenes from Bowling for Columbine to express his views on gun laws. The moods of these three scenes vary considerably, from humour, to serious to sarcasm and irony. By appealing to different types of emotions, the audience is able to connect with Moore effectively. As well as this, by feeling humorous or sad when Moore intends the audience to be, the viewers immediately, whether intentionally or unintentionally side with Moore?s view.

Sexual Harassment Interventions :: Sexual Harassment Essays

Sexual Harassment Interventions Sexual harassment affects people of all ages and races and of both sexes. Although it has been outlawed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and prohibited under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, many companies and schools have yet to develop adequate policies and procedures for addressing sexual harassment. Evidence of this is apparent in the increased number of grievances filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC): from 10,532 filings in 1993 to 15,889 in 1997 (Ganzel 1998). The Supreme Court rulings in Faragher v. City of Boca Raton and Burlington Industries v. Ellerth are an attempt to halt these incidents by requiring harassed employees to work within their companies to resolve grievances before turning to the EEOC. They place responsibility on the employer to set guidelines for preventing sexual harassment and on the employee to follow them (Barrier 1998). This Digest examines the implications of federal laws covering sexual harassment, the characteristics of company policies and grievance procedures to prevent and report sexual harassment, and program strategies for preventing sexual harassment in schools and workplaces. What Institutions Can Do The Supreme Court's recent rulings are motivating employers to take actions that reflect their compliance with federal laws as protection against sexual harassment litigation. Emerging from the literature on sexual harassment prevention are three key steps that employers can take to counter sexual harassment (Kimble-Ellis 1998; "Protecting Employees" 1998): 1. Develop a strong company policy that specifies in writing outlawed behaviors and penalties for their demonstration 2. Establish grievance procedures for reporting, processing, and resolving complaints 3. Provide sexual harassment training for supervisors, managers, and workers that explains what sexual harassment means and how it can be recognized, confronted, and averted. Strong Company Policy Although a number of large companies have already established policies governing sexual harassment, effective compliance with the Supreme Court's rulings on sexual harassment requires that all companies, as well as schools that receive federal funds, establish sexual harassment policies that they put in writing, disseminate, and enforce (Barrier 1998). A company policy addressing sexual harassment must clearly specify (1) the behaviors that constitute harassment and the company's intolerance of such behaviors; (2) channels employees must follow to report sexual harassment complaints to their supervisors or designated company representative; (3) strategies the company will follow in investigating and resolving a complaint, including confidentiality practices; (4) warnings that violation of the policy will result in punishments that could include dismissal; and (5) assurance that retaliation will not be allowed (Ganzel 1998).

Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow

Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow tells a very radical and lonely story of an Arabian that is faced with hard struggles in life. After her father left them for another woman, Doria’s world was crushed and she became pessimistic. But above all that pessimism lies a hope for a better life for her and her mother. After her father left them for another woman, Doria began to lose hope and became unhopeful. Since then many social workers were adamant to try and help them (Guene). The catalyst for Doria to have a very pessimistic view in life is the fact that her father left them in a slum for another woman back in their homeland. Moreover, the fact that her mother is illiterate and that they have to work many jobs just to satisfy their very needs added to the feeling of hopelessness that she felt. Since that kind of life dawned upon them, Doria has to face the truth about her life. Many psychologists began to offer their help to Doria but she seemed to move away from them. She does not appreciate their assistance or help. The efforts of the psychologists and social workers were not very helpful in changing young Doria’s outlook in life. When Madame Burlaud showed her pictures as attest, Doria thought that it was funny and described her actions as like in a dog. With this kind of reaction and analogy that Doria gave, it seems that she does not want help from any of them. It is just sad that she feels this way because personally, even though I have not met any social worker, I believe that they have the best interest for a person. Doria is very firm that they their attempts are just futile but, in reality, she really needs all the help in the world. Moreover, the fact that she does not have very good roles and influences around her shapes her points of view in life. Being strong is good but sometimes; admitting that we are weak is even a stronger deed.In my opinion, Doria will not have that good life that she dreams of if she continues to reject all the positive criticis ms and influences around her. Just like what is stated above, she needs a more positive outlook in life. Foremost, the social workers could have given them a more suitable place to live in because all these negative thoughts that is cooked up in her mind is an indirect product of   her environment. She needs to first find a healthy environment for both of them. Afterwards, she should go to school to earn her degree so that she can find a good job. Doria and her mother will have a stronger and meaningful bond if she will just accept all the good offers that these caring people give.Regarding the reading assignment, the author has indeed a point when he stated that the minority ethnic groups in France refuse to be integrated in their culture (Hargreaves). Moreover, he stated that the bigger blame should be on the government’s â€Å"integration policies† for the country’s minority ethnic group (Hargreaves). The minority groups refuse to cooperate with the governme nt for many reasons and because of these, it became a reason for riots to occur all over the country. This fact is evident in the narration of Guene; wherein the protagonist from her book refuses to be â€Å"integrated† to the French system. This news is very racist and ethnocentric in nature. I believe that the French government has something good in stored for the ethnic minority groups in their country; but because of pride, nationalism and even religion, these groups refuses to act on it because they are all so proud of their roots. But I believe that peace can be attained from these conflicts if both parties will respect the decision of each other. Both parties can have a benefit from each one if they will able to make some very good policies that will benefit the larger portion of the groups. I believe that more than love, respect and understanding should be instilled for all the leaders of the minority ethnic groups and the politicians to attain a very good goal.Work Cit ed:Guene, Faiza.
